Yes, that's right, Vegan MOFO is here and for the second year running I've decided to participate. For the next month, I'll be regaling you with the Skint Vegan version of Economy Gastronomy, veganizing some of my absolute favourite Polish home-cooking, asking you to help me decide what the Ice-cream flavour of the week should be and generally just being my usual charming, chatty, shit-talking self.A quick post to start with, just another excuse to post pix of my gorgeous girl celebrating her 7th birthday with the now-traditional birthday tea. We let her choose and she picked pierogies. I've blogged about these before, and will blog again this month no doubt, but I made two kinds - 'cheeze' and sauerkraut. ZOMG, these were so so good, I forgot to take any pix in the frenzy of eating that ensued. My parents were up visiting too, so despite doubling my usual recipe for the dough, there was nothing left for lunch the following day - a point I had to sadly break to my friend as I arrived at her house empty-handed!

But I did manage to bring a piece of the ice-cream cake I'd made for McGonnagle - butterscotch and chocolate ice-cream courtesy of 'The Vegan Scoop
' and my £10 ice-cream maker, on a bourbon biscuit base. Delicious and even better when blitzed in the microwave slice by slice for 30 secs.
Can I just say too, as an ice-cream lover before and after turning vegan, the chocolate ice-cream recipe in 'The Vegan Scoop' produces the best chocolate ice cream I have ever eaten anywhere. Period. So go buy the book if only for that recipe!
These are some random cookies that my daughter decorated in a very Boosh-like manner at the weekend. I just thought I'd throw them in for good measure!
That's my kick-off, see you tomorrow with some pre-weekend economy gastronomy baking and yummy treats for a cocktail party!
Over and out...

Where did you get an ice cream maker for £10?
That ice cream cake looks terrific! And I have made the pierogies before from reading your other post on them! They were great and so handy to make them at home 'coz there aren't any vegan tortellini in the stores! :)
I was incredibly lucky and scored a brand new ice-cream maker off Gumtree - a girl five minutes down the road from me had got one for a Christmas pressie that she'd never used. Upon closer inspection it's identical to the Magimix Glacier - I did so so well out of that exchange! So glad you made pierogies - they're AWESOME!
Cake! Gimme some ice cream cake! Did your friend forgive you for not bringing her pierogies? :-D
I'm so excited that it's that time of year again. I'll be doing lots of blog surfing. Mmmm I always drool at your blog.
That cake looks awesome. And McG's stylish haircut is look *very* cute :)
I need that cake! It looks AMAZING! Great photos, by the way!
Glad you mentioned economy gastronomy, though our household would have to quadruple it's spending to reach the levels achieved by most after applying the principles! :)
haha love the boosh cookies!!
River - she did forgive me, eventually!
Niecey - I know, food food everywhere!
Theresa - thanks! She'll be stoked to hear that!
Tasha - thankyou!
Pamela - that programme made my blood boil!! I watched each episode with my chin on the floor at some of the waste that was going on!
